I was inspired to write this piece by a friend of mine, let’s
call him LD. LD is having serious issues rocking his marriage. To put it
bluntly, he has lost interest in sex and now makes up excuses to dodge his
wife! Talk about reversed roles! It has gotten so bad that he came to me for
help, now I am not the world’s greatest authority but I love a good challenge
and I got to work. Let’s just say, things are now looking up in his life (pun
intended!) I got so tripped by this I decided to write about this issue that is
fast spreading amongst guys but no one really wants to talk about. Hope you
find it educative, and if you don’t need the advice, I am willing to bet you do
know someone who needs it. So pass it on!
Testosterone! It’s the stuff men are made of, when you have it in abundance you feel you can
take down a lion, if fact too much of it and you will probably try to! It’s the
stuff that helps us guys surge through puberty and finally overtake the ladies
in height forever! Without it where would we be? We owe our muscles, drive,
competitiveness and all round male aggression to succeed to testosterone.
Now if you are below 30 years old this story might not have
any meaning to you yet (don’t worry it will soon) but guys out there over 30
know where I am headed. As wonderful as this testosterone stuff is, once you
hit 30 you start to lose your testosterone at an ever increasing pace. This
will affect everything! Strength, muscles, drive, and worst of all sexual
performance!
Now almost every guy over 30 has experienced a misfire in
the bedroom, and it is terrifying! It feels like you just lost your license to
be a man! This down turn could have its origins in low T levels. Today I want
to let you know that all hope is not lost, if you don’t like how your
performance has dipped in and out of bed then this piece is for you. Read it
and learn all about Testosterone from A to Z, and also find out how you can
recover the action in you!
WHAT IS TESTOSTERONE?
Simply put it is the male hormone that makes us men. There
are many hormones in the human body; testosterone is the most important for
men. This wonderful hormone is produced mainly in the male testes and some in
the adrenal glands. High t levels are responsible for sexual performance, reproduction,
muscle mass, aggression, competitive and risky behaviour. Your T levels surge
from your teenage years till about 30 when a slow decline starts and this will
accelerate from age 40. However due to our current lifestyles and other
environmental issue, male T levels are dropping at an alarming rate. So much so
that erectile and other health issue that should normally pop up when men are
over 50 are now showing up in guys just over 30.
SYMPTOMS OF LOW
TESTOSTERONE
Symptoms of low T levels include but are not limited to;
Constant fatigue, depression, grumpiness, lower productivity at work, erectile
dysfunction (impotence), decrease in strength and muscle mass, increased body
fat and low sex drive.
CAUSES:
There are many causes of Low testosterone in men, some of
them are interwoven. Below is a list of the most likely causes that might be
affecting your production of testosterone and killing your mojo!
·
Stress
·
Lack of sleep
·
Lack of exercise
·
Poor eating habits
·
Excess alcohol
·
Chemicals and toxins
·
High caffeine intake
Now having looked at what testosterone is and how it affects
your performance as a man, let’s examine how you can boost your T levels as NATURALLY as possible. I stress the
natural part because there are many drugs and supplements out there that claim
to boost your T levels. Some actually work, you know because many of your
friendly Mallams sell them! Please exercise CAUTION! These stimulants can cause high blood pressure, blinding
headaches as well as liver and kidney damage. Please stay away from them. Below
are a detailed explanation of how you can raise your T levels naturally and
safely over time, there are no quick fixes or short cuts.
HOW TO BOOST YOUR TESTOSTERONE LEVELS:
1. EAT HEALTHIER
The first way to boost T levels is to
improve your eating habits, many of us due to pressure and time constraints
hardly sit down to plan our meals and we end up eating meals that do us more
harm than good. Fried foods, foods heavy in saturated fat, junk food, white
rice and white bread should be avoided. They tend to make us put on fat which
in turn lowers Testosterone level while raising oestrogen levels i.e. too much fatty foods will make you gain
weight and turn you into a woman! To boost your T level eat more vegetables,
like cabbage, lettuce etc they will give you zinc and help produce Nitric oxide
which is essential for male potency while lower your oestrogen level. Also, eat
more nuts like; walnuts, cashew and groundnuts. They are high in monounsaturated
fats and help boost testosterone. Also eat oatmeal and eggs as often as you
can, one or two eggs a day is good for testosterone production, don’t worry too
much about the cholesterol. Lastly cut out as much sugar as you can, it hardens
you arteries and prevents blood flow down below!
2. EXERCISE
You know it’s never far away, and for good
reason too! You may not want too but research has shown that one of the most
effective ways of increasing your T levels is to exercise. Exercise and weight
training in particular has been shown to boost T levels. When you lift weights
heavily and regularly, your body is forced to produce more testosterone and human
growth hormones. I want to emphasize, lift heavy weights and stick to the
traditional compound exercises like; Bench press, Barbell squat, deadlift and
shoulder press. I know it’s difficult but strive to
lift weights and lift heavy too for maximum effects, also cardio training like
jogging aerobics etc. will help boost T levels but beware excess running and
other cardio will lower T levels. So don’t run for more than 30 mins a session.
Lastly it is how well not how far, do not spend hours struggling with weights
in the gym, this will lead to overtraining and lower T levels.
3. BE POSITIVE
How does this affect T levels? Simple, when
you are always negative about life and thinking depressed thoughts you end up
triggering an upsurge in the body’s stress hormone known as cortisol. When your
cortisol levels rise, your T levels go down and this will also lead to more
oestrogen and so it continues. It is best to always have a sunny outlook on
life, I know there are challenges but your attitude will determine everything
including getting your bedroom mojo back.
4. LOWER YOUR STRESS LEVELS
How? You ask. No fuel, no power, work
stress, family stress etc. I know how you feel, we all battle these demons in
our daily life and it’s not easy. To get back to the lion king you once were
you need to evolve your personal way of managing stress before it gets the best
of you. Remember the stress hormone cortisol? It suppresses your Testosterone
and is produced in times of stress. You can overcome it by removing yourself
from stressful situations before they overwhelm you, take a break in the office
and go outside for a 5 minute walk it helps, play music you love that relaxes
you and my personal favourite; try and see humour even in bad situations. It
works!
5. LOSE WEIGHT
This is related to exercise but I cannot
over emphasize it. Excess weight is a testosterone killer, when you carry
excess fat especially in the belly (visceral fat) it leads to the production of
more oestrogen and lowers testosterone production. The best way to fight this is
through a healthy diet and exercise. The leaner and more muscular you are the
more testosterone your body will produce and the more virile you feel. Enough
said.
6. GET ENOUGH SLEEP
Research has shown that there is
a link between low testosterone and sleep deprivation. Most of us guys fall
into the category of sleep deprived, some of us chronically so. A lack of sleep
or inadequate sleep has many bad side effects including high blood pressure, higher
levels of cortisol in the body and ultimately lower T levels. To combat this
try to get between 7 and 8 hours of sleep. It’s a tough one but very
achievable. Your health is more important than anything. So while you do come
back late from work, try to turn off the TV and rest. It will help you raise
Your T levels as well as make you feel strong and ready to go the next morning.
7.
REDUCE
ALCOHOL INTAKE
This is a controversial
one because alcohol is good for you, and alcohol is also bad for you! Now, it
has been shown that moderate drinking i.e. a bottle of beer a day or 2 15cl
glasses of wine a day can have beneficial effects on your body specifically as
it pertains to heart health. However, there is a flip side to this because if
you drink more than the recommended daily dose then you lose all the healthy
benefits and gain all the negative, empty calories, fat gain, more oestrogen and
lower Testosterone levels. Another danger with heavy beer consumption is that
one of its essential ingredients, hops is known for helping to produce oestrogen
in the body. So please drink less and drink less beer.
8.
HAVE
MORE SEX!
9.
TAKE
HORNY GOAT WEED SUPPLEMENTS
On a final note,
while I am wary about endorsing any herbal supplement (remember the Mallams
selling burantashi?) I do however seriously recommend one: “Horny Goat Weed” it
really does deliver on promise without any nasty side effects. It is a workout
booster that helps with strength and endurance, with increased T levels being a
wonderful bonus for using it. Please note that it will not perform miracles
overnight but I guarantee you that the effects will be noticeable after about a
month of use. Best of all it is readily available at major pharmacy chains and
is very affordable.
There you have
it folks, the how and why you are losing your mojo and how you can get it back.
Try this methods I have listed and I promise that you will be the man you once
were and then some more. Thanks and till next time.
Do have a lovely
day!
